How to install the Dark Alex OEB-B
PLEASE NOTE: ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE PERFORMED AT YOUR OWN RISK. NEITHER THIS WEB SITE NOR THE WRITERS TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD YOU HURT YOUR PSP, YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, OR YOUR DOG.
This document assumes you know how to connect your PSP to your computer to access the Memory Stick, and can perform basic file commands on your own.
Requirements:
- Sony PSP with battery charged at least 75%.
- Memory Stick Duo (Recommended 1GB and above)
The first step to running your custom made Playstation games on your PSP involves getting the 3.02 OE-B (stands for Open Edition).
Now, there are some caveats here. This part of the guide is going to show you how to upgrade a PSP from 1.5 Firmware to 3.02 OE-B.
Most of this software can be found on Dark Alex's site, who is the creator of much of the software used here. Please give him your thanks if you use his software!

Start with 1.5 Firmware
The first step is to have a PSP that is running on the 1.5 version of the PSP firmware. You can check for this by going into the System "System Settings" on your PSP, then System Information.
Important note: There is a version of the PSP's motherboard known as TA-082, which, as far I understand, will not work under this situation. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MESS WITH YOUR PSP IF YOU HAVE THIS VERSION! For more information, see The PSP-TA082 guide.
Assuming that you are running a PSP with the 1.5 firmware, proceed.
What do I do if I don't have the 1.5 Firmware?
Depends. If you know what you're doing, and you've already installed the Dark Alex 2.71 Special Edition (known as 2.71 SE) firmware, then you can proceed with the instructions below.
If you are running Firmware 2.0 or 2.71, there are downgraders you can use. The DarK AleX PSP Developer Web site has a 2.71 downgrader (as well as a downgrader for those running the TA-082 motherboard), so you can get to 1.5 firmware. If you are using 2.0, there are downgraders out there - but it's really easier to upgrade to 2.71 and downgrade from there.
If you are running anything between 2.71 and 1.5, as I mentioned above, I would simply upgrade to 2.71, then downgrade to 1.5.
Next step: Installing the 3.02 OE-A firmware.
Upgrade to 3.02 OE-A
Are you having fun yet? If you survived the above steps, then this one won't be so bad, because it's really the same thing.
- First, download the official Sony PSP 1.50 Firmware and 3.02 Firmware, available here:
PSP 1.50 Firmware
PSP 3.02 Firmware . - Rename the 1.50 Firmware to 150.PBP, and the 3.02 firmware to 302.PBP.
- Download the 3.02 Open Edition A from the Dark Alex Website. Extract the files to the directory of your choice.
- Copy the files 150.PBP and 302.PBP to the directory called oeupdmaker.
- Copy the directories 302oeflasher, 302oeflasher%, oeupdmaker, oeupdmaker% to your PSP under the /PSP/GAME/ directory, so you should see this:
- Go into your Game on your PSP menu, select Memory Card, and run 3.02 OE-A Update Maker. This will extract files from the 1.50 and 3.02 firmware to create the new custom firmware.
- Reconnect your PSP to your computer. In the owupdmaker on your PSP is a new file titled DATA.DXAR. Copy this file to the 302oeflaster directory.
- THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE, THEN REMOVE ALL OF THE FILES YOU JUST PUT ONTO YOUR PSP AND GO DO SOMETHING ELSE.
- Run the program on your PSP called 3.02 OE-A Firmware Install. If you really, really want to do this, press X. Otherwise, press the right should button to escape. I'd go ahead and press X. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PSP DURING THIS TIME! IF YOU DO, YOU ARE ROYALLY SCREWED!
- Wait - when it's done, your PSP will reboot, and you'll have your shiny new 3.02 OE-A firmware!
Upgrade to 3.02 OE-B
The hard part is over - now it's time to upgrade to 3.02 OE-B.
- Download the 3.02 OE-B installer from the Dark Alex Website.
- Extract the directory.
- Make new folder in you PSP's directory name it GAME150.
- Copy the folder OEB_UPDATE to your /PSP/GAME150 directory on your PSP.
- On your PSP, run the program titled 3.02 OE-B Update.
- That's it - it will update, then exit! Wasn't that easy? Personally, I'd reboot my PSP just to make sure, but that's because I'm paranoid.
